The physicality
by Widdershins
Age Group: Adult
Around me no whisper, no flutter
in the evening breeze to culminate
a crashing sound before the aria envelopes…
taking away my body in a puff of smoke,
dazzling alchemy of another dimension
reaching through the portal to grab my attention,
and here… in the nothingness I begin to form
ideas and songs that tear at my lungs,
and as I unintentionally touch some cloth…
My heart is set racing when I thought
of the fact that my existence is real
I’m not a temporal dream or fantasy,
I can feel the harsh cloth beneath me…
no ethereal twists my vision aside,
no divulged secrets seal my lips once more in my mind…
the shivers that drift over me like fingers on keys,
mourn for my lack of feeling in physical reality…
“here you are, ” they whisper to me,
and gesture at the smoky haze about,
wondering in rapture whether I shall
moisten my lips to speak,
or warily reach up to touch my cheek, as I stare
into the mirror, wondering what is before me—there…
Am I truly the face that stares back at me?
or is this another one of my dreams,
where I am not what I seem, where I pace
above or below,
staring into the dark beyond the door,
or watching by means of a reflective glass:
the falling snow…
Cold or remote, alive and healthy;
weakly and pale such as I be,
which one applies to me? what
can I do… how can I make use
of being alive, in a body? physicality—
a dream of yearning,
the place for birthing and a place
often riddled with white agony…
falling gently, lightly over me, as though
I were mere earth… ready
to be covered and forgotten… but only
very, very slowly…
