A fascination with sorrow

What is it about the sweet violin,
the yawning emptiness
of the guitar’s wailing tears,
the trailing off of words spoken alone,
the nights filled with longing looks,
eyes that mingle delightful wonder
the blackest and calmest ponder
of the silent whispers that haunt us,
the frustration welling in the depths,
biting of lips and a hand to clench
the recitation of lonely laments…
a hurt running deep, making movements slow
the inner light be stabbed with sudden sorrow,
the tears of regret… what is it about all this… that
fascinate me so…
What is it in fury
that captures energy’s glory,
the feel of being in ones element
when raging, storming and laughing
all in one, the bound look that could kill,
the strong and unshakable will,
the short temper and angry words
that explode in litanies and prose
the secret fires that come from the deep
and shake you to the foundations of fear
what is it about it that draws my eyes near…
The fascination I hide
when I gaze into teary eyes,
I want to know… all that has caused it
all who begot this, the pain
let me see it again…
share it and join it with my own,
don’t still or swallow it, I wish to know…
do not spare me the knowledge of your scars
for each biting wound is what makes you who you are…
May you never have true reason
to feel the need to hide it so
may you never fit in with everyone else
where your pain cannot follow…
everyone has their perverse fascination, you say?
Well this would be mine, in a way…
I’d like to see it again…
I’d like to know its every facet,
your deepest of secrets…
My tragedies perhaps have on me their hold,
but I long to gaze at them for long moments
feel their welling, blue depths
so I shall never forget,
I’ll always know
that this is what shaped me, scarred me so…
and when I’d seen the same hurt
in you
I’d longed to take your pain away
and show it to you
it has made you into the person I know
and it’s the very thing
that makes your inner light shine all the brighter
through it all, this is your enigmatic glow…
