Was I just second-best?

Am I just a shadow
unknowing who shadows me over
until now
am I just a different version
of what you had
and lost
am I a mere mirrored reflection
of an overshadowing
physical being
an echo
to play upon your hungry ears
a sound uttered by your lips
have I ever truly been
your unquestioned dream
or did I mold into one
with someone else…
Had I ever had
any meaning
other than a remembrance
a mere presence
to help you to forget
had I truly been the object
of your desire
or had you all along seen through me
and hadn’t really seen
me…
Was I ever a part of you
for my sake alone
or am I just second-best
to what you once had
all along…
You made a choice once
and you made it wrong
you chose again
something farther away
but am I just a new form
a shape of the same…
Is this my sister
or am I her manifestation?
Am I the same as her
or was I ever
alone
in your eyes…
in your twisted mind…

Author's Notes: *sigh* more of my depressed poetry. I wonder if I'll ever have a moment when I'm alone, and not worrying, and definitely not dwelling on this. Arr, at least, for once, I could get it down into a poem. Strangely it doesn't really effect me -so- much... but it's... something that gnaws at me.
