The Cost

Age Group: Adult
Belief is for girls younger than me
belief grows on psychedelic trees, and…
the bitter winds blow through their leaves
and are doused by the icy spray of the sea…
Hope is a token and burden we carry
the young are strong enough to lift it
but its deadweight makes each step create pits
which we end up staggering out of hopelessly…
Shores greet me bitterly
once they were joyous things
now they just gloat at me
Fighting for something lost
I seek easing of closing
and I’ll pay, whatever the cost.
