In The Land Of Lama

Colossal in pride
For its white snow skinned exterior
The Ladakhi mountain stood but
Bare and rugged
shorn of vegetations down below
miles and miles of glaciers
in its ribbed cages
breaking sometimes into
Clear streams touched by the sun
I met myself.
The montane marmots played
the tobacco hued stallions grazed
wild tomentosas in pink bloomed
the butterflies amorously tango-ed
in the cold bare earth
I met me.
Stifled by the fleecy robes
impeding the movements
I rip them and throw them far
and lay bare on the soiled bed
so that breaths come easy
Breathe do I for a short respite
then the dark sets in
the howling wind intensifies
the cold grips the earth yet again.
A night of toss and turn
leads the aching ‘I’
into a quiescent trance
at the break of the dawn
far away a voice calls out
Hey Traveller, would you remember me?
The lip breaks into feebly
Yes, I will
since in you I met me.
