Doppelganger (Kyrielle)

Once, I was Beethoven’s back
listening to ninth symphony track
took the floggings of his father mad
my half-self was a born nomad.
Once, I became a grass carpet
to a poet with waste couplets
from his pocket, I robbed coins sad
my half-self was a born nomad.
I spread me as a river, once
they floated on my dank fragrance
threw stones to see, ripples expand
my half self was a born nomad.
For long I was a coal to burn
until found by a ghost nocturne
freed me from a vapid maenad
my half self found a born nomad.
