Discrimination, patience and surrender
by the doc
Age Group: Adult
Discrimination and patience need to be always maintained and protected, (similar) in such a way that all acts lead to the surrender and offering of oneself to God. Discrimination is knowing that God does and will do everything according to His Own or the faultless desires of His pious devotees.
What is the point in doubting the decision or the desire of God by pleadingly praying to God? Nothing happens by doing these. Everything that is, belongs to God and in everything God is really omnipotent and competent.
III – IV ½
To know totally that one is in complete control of God, comprehending that, one must quickly give up everything that leads to or is associated with false pride. If out of God’s own desire, one feels that there is some command of God arising repeatedly and specifically in one’s conscience, then that should be followed and completed irrespective of what is required by those that are related to one by the body. In all acts where trouble and strife is the beginning, one must give up one’s obstinacy in all ways and forms.
In all acts relating with oneself or with one’s relations out of the body one must give up obstinacy and rigidity. One must think carefully about what is moral and what is immoral, keeping in mind the service of God and about how one is in complete control by God Himself.
This discrimination has been explained effectively and now patience is being explained exclusively.
Patience is that, till one’s death, one must endure all misery and suffering without reciprocating or being in sorrow, coming from all sides in all fields – be it the society, the Vedas or even in Divinity that is in dealing with the world, in gaining illuminating Knowledge or in experiencing God. In all sorrows related to the body, one must think about the buttermilk (of the impermanence of relations and their changing forms in multiple births) . In all sorrows related to the special senses, one must think of the saint Jada-bharatji, who, though competent and illumined acted like an indifferent deaf-mute-dumb individual to bear sorrow in humility. In all miseries befalling due to severe destiny one must think like the Gopijanas of Vraj who had to bear the separation from their own God Krushna.
If there is some way to relieve these sufferings according to the Divine wish of God, then one must not be obstinate to willfully live in suffering and those methods to relieve misery must be resorted to. Contempt of all, be it of the wife, of ignorant or malicious people or of society must be borne without reciprocating and with patience.
One must renounce all that one unnecessarily enjoys with the mind, body or speech. If one is unable to do so, one must feel pain about one’s lack of will and determination in renouncing and in experiencing these unnecessary, hoarded pleasures of tge nubd-body-speech in life.
In all seemingly impossible acts only God Hari is the refuge. Everything is attainable through constant and intransigent refuge and surrender of God. This is how patience is described and is followed now by the description of surrender.
X – XIII
In all acts relating to this world or relating to the heavens as described in the scriptures, in all such forms and acts God Hari is the only refuge. In all sorts of sins and sorrow removal, in facing fears and in fulfilment of one’s desires, in defying pious devotees of God, and in absence of devotion within oneself, in cased when one has been snubbed or hurt by the pious devotees of God, in all seemingly possible or impossible acts, in all ways God Hari is the only refuge.
In acts performed out of false pride or in acts which require the maintenance, protection and commitment from oneself (for example livelihood to get the desired items for God’s sewa) of people or of required articles, and in instances of being hurt by them, or by the adverse acts of destiny or being examined by God, or by the intolerable acts committed by one’s disciples in attainment of the divine mind required to perceive God’s Leela; in all sorts of completion of different endeavours and encounters, God Hari is the only refuge.
It is necessary to constantly remind oneself of this by contemplation and by verbal repetition of the same.
To resort in any circumstances to anybody else or to different Gods for the accomplishment of any small or big tasks or even the acts of going there, and in all circumstances, especially this dependence with the mind out of fear or greed, by pleading or by prayers should be renounced.
To be faithless in the Pushti Maargiya path of devotion, in the words of Mahaprabhuji, in the refuge of God, or in God Himself, should never be done. It is a major obstacle and a hindrance. Exemplifying faithlessness is the incident of the Brahmaastra, a missile fired by Meghnaad, the son of Ravana, to tie up Hanumanji, the messenger of God Shri Ram, which was sufficient enough, yet Meghnaad faithless in that power resorted to chains for tying up Hanumanji in shackles, which did not work out as Hanumanji caused great destruction. Exemplifying faith is the patience of Chaataka – the pied-crested cuckoo bird which is supposed to drink water only from the rain-bearing clouds, which eventually do come to quench its thirst. One must be free from all cravings and attachments and experience joy or sorrow whichever comes to oneself.
All acts whether high (eg like the Sewa – service to God) or low (eg dealing with menial, faithless people which becomes necessary at times) should be done according to the way they are usually performed. Or, what is the purpose or point behind talking or explaining a lot? God Hari, the eternal source of joy and the remover of all pain should always be thought of as a refuge.
In this manner, refuge of God, the eternal and beneficial source of assurance and upliftment – the refuge of God has been mentioned. I, Mahaprabhuji, believe that in this Iron age- Kaliyuga, it is only with great pains and difficulties that one can follow the path of God realization and attainment, like devotion etc
