My Mother's Words

It’s time to grow up
My darling one
So hand me your wings
Made by butterfly kings
For I am here to dash your dreams
You will never sit in robes of green
Or be called a fairy queen
For there is nary such a thing
And ours is a dreary sense of being
The world is rational
And deals not with all things magical
So hand me your books
With marching words as black as rooks
For there can be no imagination here
Golden clouds filled with magic
Ah that’s quite tragic
For they are made of mist
And the dew that kissed
The flowers is but water
Author's Notes: I was raised Southern Baptist and when my mother saw me leaning away from the church she took away all of my books cause she thought they were corrupting me.
