Bron Trogain

The last of the great feasts in our year
Speak of the corn, the ripening ear
This is earth’s sorrowing in autumn
Upon this first day of August come,
So speaks the Tochmarc Emire’s text
Of Bron Trogain, a time so vexed
Because it sees the harvest crown
And yet the light is drawing down
The first of the corn is cut today
Taken to high place, far away
Then buried there, and then a feast
The sacred bull, sacrificial beast
Dancing tells of the goddess rite
And the struggle here, the fight
With Lugh triumphant in her eyes
So upon the hill, their union ties,
Amidst the sweetly scented clover
Ensures the harvest ritual over.
