Beslan Number 1: Reprise
The old walls are burnt and broken
The children’s pictures are long gone
The windows smashed and shattered
Where a September sun once shone
This was once a place of celebration
A place where a child’s eyes shone
But through the touch of violence
That shining light is long gone
A mother mourns a daughter
As her sister mourns a son
Not a life is left untouched
By the hands that held the gun
The three hundred names are posted
Like the notices were for school
No classes are held here any more
The memories too cold and cruel
But how then do I know it?
This voyeur from so far away
Tell me, newshounds is it just,
Another job, another day?
And far away, we shake our heads
In the safety of a peaceful life
As far away in their shattered world
A man mourns his long dead wife…
