Samhain

Samhain.
The weather it is colder
The sky no longer blue
We a’circle in the woodland
To greet the year anew
The procession, it is solemn
And wends its way between the trees
To the places too long hidden
Where the Gods we will appease
So we stand the solemn circle
At the death of the old year
And with shivering anticipation
Feel the new come near.
We share with one another
Our boasts from the old year
And for those ancestors passed
We may shed a quiet tear
For this is a time of spirit,
A time for a last farewell?
When past mistakes are banished
With a simple whispered spell
And now the New Year enters
On a Goddesses silent feet
We dance and laugh with one another,
As we brave the winter sleet
Too soon the magic passes
And the spirits drift away
So we walk back to our lives
Bidding farewell to the fey.
And as we close the circle
At the dying of the night
An old couple watch us fondly
As we disappear from sight
And ever they will watch us
While we walk the path of life
Be it once the best of times
Or the worst a’full of strife.
