The Raven

She flies across a pitch black sky
You only see the silent sheen
Left by moon on twisted feathers
Warped and broken by the gaze
Of peacocks and of beauties bright
Shun the creature of the night
Her beloved lies in far off place where she can never see her
See her for the lie she is
Denial has cracked her heart
Unrequited love was like a shot upon its crystal
It should sparkle as it falls but it doesn't catch the light
Melting in the darkness
That living block of ice
She looks upon the world with eyes that none can ever see
Eyes behind the twisted face
A man upon reflection
Gazes back into those eyes
Or is that just a dream
Who is that twisted raven?
Who were they meant to be?
What you missed when I looked in those eyes
was that
I saw
...me.
Author's Notes: At long last I've decided to edit this poem to reflect the truth as I know it and have known it. The word 'he' in the first line of the second stanza has been changed to 'she'. I'm not sure if it reads better though.
