Spirit

She was running
Darting through the trees
A desperate attempt
To evade their burning wrath
Of that which they do not understand
In her mind she could imagine
Imagine the flames
Searing her skin
The night was dark
Overcast
There was no moon to light her way
A solitary witch
Pursued by a mob of hatred
Hatred because she was different
Not because she had done anything wrong
She had never hurt anybody
But they hated her all the same
A hatred as bright as the flames
they would wish to force upon her
As she ran her thoughts drifted
Carrying her away from the panic and pain
Her aching legs troubled her no more
She went back
Back to the beginning
Laughing with her sisters
Performing magic and feeling an unending love for everything
And as she thought back to those happier times
The clouds parted and the full moon shone through
She smiled and in that instant
Her spirit was free.
