Shattered Glass

Age Group: Adult
Her heart is like a trampled rose,
ever rotting, never grows,
always touched by light of sun,
ever burning,
flaming torture,
it's petals now for birds to eat,
torn apart by fevered beaks,
what once was red or white is black,
whether passioned, whether pure,
what once was will never be,
love's cruel bleeding never cured.
Her life is like a tainted jewel,
ruined now by actions cruel,
whether stained by tears or blood,
her life lies sinking in the mud,
its force a gem ne'er to be seen,
no one now will see its gleam,
its strength, its beauty,
nought but dream.
Her mind is now a sanguine blade,
cruelly sharpened,
strongly made,
with this new weapon she shall fight,
her heart the rose,
it will grow back,
her life the tainted jewel will crack,
and from it shine a ruby red,
dyed with the blood her sharp mind shed,
the pain is now a driving force,
she shatters men with no remorse.
But now she stops and looks around,
What can she hear?,
Not a sound,
Those who mocked her now lie still,
as do those who caused her pain,
but there are some who wished no ill,
they lie there just the same,
her rage was like a roaring fire,
consuming those within,
so now she weeps and draws a knife,
and thereby joins her kin,
she leaves the living world behind,
and burns for all her sin.
Her soul is now like shattered glass,
left sparkling on the floor,
as no one cares it's swept away,
her memory's no more,
the lid is strewn with petals,
jewels are worn by all,
the false tears shed for how she bled,
are soaked up by the earth,
and as she sinks with sword in hand,
we know she's not the first.
Author's Notes: This was the first poem I ever put on the internet. It's also one of the longest poems I've written...enjoy!
