Christmas comes but once a year

Christmas comes but once a year
Christmas comes but once a year
With processed ham and too much beer
A grandmother dies with no one near
And no one even sheds a tear
And we get those gifts in blister packs
Sold in stacks and stacks and stacks
Built from sweat of slave workers backs
A warm ‘Happy Christmas’ sent by fax
So we sit in cars on a busy road
Suspensions groaning with the load
Turkey to make our guts explode
And a mother in law who lives to goad
So we might drag ourselves to pray
Which we never do any other day
We wont listen to the words we say
As the frozen tramp’s life drifts away
Christmas now it makes me sick
A raining miserable commercial trick
Jingle, jingle watch my shtick
And turn your back on old Saint Nick
So join me in my Christmas cheer
And come crack open another beer
Don’t worry about granddads lonely tear
This packaged Christmas is without peer
But Father Christmas is on the dole
And in your heart there is an empty hole
There’s nothing here to feed the soul
Just another empty church collection bowl
So to you a happy Christmas in the slushy cold
And a warm and happy New Same Old.
