Cradle Song for a Departed Friend

So slow may the wind blow

while you sleep
and the darkness keep you.
So dark may the moon shine
So dark may the moon shine,
on your grave
since we could not save you.
So still may the rain fall
So still may the rain fall,
in the world
where its people failed you.
So long may your memory
So long may your memory
never leave
those of us who grieve you.
Author's Notes: Three years ago this weekend a good friend took her own life. I think of her a lot, not with too much grief, because we knew it was coming and we tried everything to stop it. In the end it was her choice.
I don't know what happened to her, but I hope she has found peace. This is really a song not a poem, but I don't have access to anything to produce the music for it, so a poem it will remain.
