Was it something I did, Daddy?

What have you done?
Your body remains unchanged
But something inside you is different
You are not the same man
The man I remember was different
I would eagerly await his arrival
If I didn’t come running down the stairs
At the sound of the door slamming shut
That signalled your return from work
You would seek me out
Come to my room and greet me there
The man you are now
Would never do that.
You used to notice things
Important things
If you went away you would call
Let me know
Now I don’t know where you go
The big bear hugs I had loved
Were different
You hug me now because I ask
Before you just knew when I wanted to be close to you
Why has this happened?
You live so close
But your mind is so far away
Thoughts of HER drive me out of your head
It’s always me that calls you
Me that comes to visit
You make no effort to keep me your daughter
Even when I am in your house
I am ignored
You try to hide it
But I know you don’t want me there
You hurry me out as soon as you can
I used to be important to my father
Now my father is dead
All that remains of him
Is an empty shell
That tries to keep up the pretence
Of the father that cares
For his eldest child
Where have you gone Daddy?
Why have you left me?
