The Oak King

The Oak King
He walks through the forest
Limping from the wound in His thigh
Clothed in oak leaves longing for rest
Stumbling but moving on knowing His time is nigh.
Once He was tall and strong
His mantle of leaves green and lush
But now He is weak His leaves all brown
He does not belong in the dark nights hush.
Traveling on He stoops to drink
From a forest pool clear and pure
To see a reflection there of the foe
Who dealt the blow that brought Him low.
But wait this young man
Who gazes back at Him is no foe
For the wonder is it is himself He sees
But now young and decked in holly green.
And as he walks on throgh the night
Towards dawn a change you will see
No longer limping old , but
Reborn as the Holly king, is he.
