Midnight Serenade

Some guy walks alone
Streetlights flicker
A few streets away, a car
Curtains closed, light inside
A different world, a different place
An owl disturbs the air
Clouds cover moon, ripples over puddles
Some guy keeps on walking
The faint sounds of a radio
Someone laughs, last or longest?
A train's horn, carried by the wind
A comforting sound, lonely to lonely
Raindrops hit the pavement
Dust to mud, concrete to mirror
Lights reflected, from that world and this
Stepping through night sunsets
One by one, over again
Some guy still is walking
World dark and empty
Voices, yes, and lights and cars
Existing somewhere else
Rivers in the gutter, waterfalls in drains
Elsewhere labelled beauty
Stars shift, moon majestic
Some guy walking, footsteps, shadows
Other worlds behind closed curtains
He knows he doesn't exist to them
But he doesn't need to
Special silence, world is sleeping
Rat rustles, another train
Gives its mournful salute
Shadows shift in this empty world
And the man who loves it
Keeps walking

Author's Notes: This describes the calm and peace you can feel in the city at night when there's noone else around except the moon, rain and the nightlife. It's at these times when I can feel especially close to the Goddess.
