Growing old disgracefuly.

Age Group: Adult
My knees ache, my eyesight is declining, and
as for my memory it's reminiscent of a sieve.
In fact my whole body is sliding into old age.
Oh but inside what a different scene,
the inner child reigns there.
The child that kicks up leafs in the autumn,
and eats ice cream instead of a proper meal.
The part of me that sees the wonder in the world
and still wants to watch snails climb a wall and
collect caterpillars in a jam jar.
God help us I say to not get old inside
The body may fail and let us down,
but I want my epitaph to be " he died aged ninety
going on nine.
