From the same tree

by Moonlight Wolf
 Age Group: Adult

It is from the same tree we sprout. We are all born, living and dying. No matter how many branches No matter how many leaves No matter how much fruit It all hangs upon the same tree.
While a tree does have multiple roots That pertain to the past and to heritage. However it is the roots that help a tree grow They are not the source of a tree.
They are its nourisher and help it to grow There is still one seed from which we spring When planted in our mother's body. While we may branch out in many different ways We are still a part of that same tree And originate from the same seed.
Consider the tree of Paganism
We all believe in Nature Divine And that Goddess and God reside in all. That is the seed of the tree.
We all celebrate the Sabbats. We all give reverance to Her and to Him. Equality of gender, race, sexuality These too are central to our tree. It is these things that form our trunk.
However it seems the branches do pull us apart. Some are Wiccan, some are Asatru, Some are White Witches, some are Eclectic. There are Shamanic branches and Druid branches As well as Santeria branches and Voudou branches And branches of Shinto and branches of Aboriginal teachings. There are also those who grow on Celtic branches (Of which there are many) Or on Egyptian branches Or on Hellenistic branches Or Sumerian branches Or even Angelic, Heriditary, Gardnerian Or even those who choose the path of the Native Americans.
Trees have many branches and no branches fights with another. There are bad apples and leaves that fall away.
Yet all these branches spring from the same place. Should they fight the trunk will tear The tree will weaken and die. No branch tells another how to grow. Let the branches of our Pagan tree Grow in their own ways peacefully.
Author's Notes: I always feel sad when various people from different branches of the same faith are fighting over one another's beliefs because they believe that one way is valid but another's isn't.
I particularly abhor terms like 'fluffy bunny' and I really think the word 'cowan' to describe a non-witch is a bit insulting. If a person wants to stick to white witchcraft, fine. If a person doesn't want to be a witch, fine again. So long as no harm is being done.
Just because we choose a different path doesn't make us better than anyone else and it doesn't make us worse.
I chose the image of a tree because the term 'branch of a X faith stuck in my mind.' Not that this isn't obvious from the poem.
Anyone of a different faith can easily apply this to different branches of their own faith or could even extend it to humanity as a whole.
Read as you wish, just don't say I'm encouraging intolernace because I'm not.
