The Fragile Heart

I love being in love,
The feeling of exultation
Of a lover holding my heart
In their hands.
Knowing that with one twist
Of a scornfull hand
It could be broken in two.
Oh how scary it is
To be this vulnerable
And open to abuse.
How fragile the human
condition is that our hearts,
Once given are at the mercy
Of a lovers embrace.
And yet our capacity for love
Is boundless in its scope
The hearts apparent fragility
An illusion, it is strong and daring
Coming back for more time after time.
So my love take my heart
And hold it beating in your
Tender hands, and ,
Please treat it gently.
