Away with the fairies

Age Group: Adult
The old stunted oak stands forlorn
in the middle of the ploughed field,
skeletal arms reaching skyward.
Why? I hear you ask, is it not uprooted
and the land put to use.
For superstitions sake is my reply
for here is the home of the Fae,
and in its roots they play.
Stuff and nonsense is your reply.
But come here the next moonlit night
and watch the witch light
play among its branches,
and let the dream take you where it will.
Come away with the Fae ones
Bold Oberon, fanciful Titania
and playful Puck.
Let them take you to their court
to share share their fairy revels.
Partake from their table
and drink enchanted wine.
And on your return you will know
why the tree is left untouched.
For your heart is held ransom,
for all eternity, in the home of the Fae.
