The fair maid of Avalon

Age Group: Adult
There is a hill in Avalons fair shadow
and on this hill there atands a tower
of moss covered stone.
And in yon tower lives a maiden fair
her looks so comely, her heart so dark.
She wanders the tower weeping
bitter tears, of despair forsaken
by her lover bold. Songs of love
did he sing and his heart did promise
in exchange for hers.
Gladly did her heart take flight
and intertwine with his
her body freely did she give to love.
But false did her lover prove
and when her body did posses
left her for another's delight.
So now these rooms does this
fair maiden haunt, vowing to love no more.
Cold stone now dwells where once
a heart of flesh and blood did beat
in Avalon's fair shadow

Author's Notes: I wanted to try and write a poem that had the flavour of a pre raphealite painting and this is the result
