The travail of birth
by Pangur-ban
Age Group: Adult
Pain, pain and more pain.
Feeling the age old compunction
to bear down and expel
this intruder from Her body.
The Goddess in labour.
Renewing the age old cycle
of birth, death and rebirth
Of her consort the Sun.
The world awaits this birth
with baited breath, darkness
pushing in on all sides, hope waning
with the shortening of the day.
In the travail of this birth though
the world takes hope and comfort,
that the darkness will recede
and the light return once more.
But, still pain is all She feels
in the travail of this birth, but
then as the dawn breaks a squalling
cry is heard and hope is born.
