The hope of Yule.

Hoary
frost hardened
ground, wind whipping at
the legs of cows, while sheep
huddle together sharing their warmth in
an act of endless giving one to another.
But look! there in yonder cow byre, do you see,
the woman lying among the hay in the agony of labour.
Who is this woman not much older than a maid?
Could she be, oh could she be the Goddess
giving birth once more to the God of light.
Oh how my heart yearns for it to be true
that in this time of dark nights rule
hope can be reborn among us
whether in a stable in
Palestine or a cow
shed in England's
pleasant
land.
