Ethereal (Part 12) Will's Journey

by Moonlight Wolf

Age Group: Adult

It was now two weeks
Since the pilgrimage
Had started
And left Will and Faye behind.

Faye was too busy
To give much thought to it
But Will's feet began to itch.

Was he missing out
On something grand?
He simply dismissed it
And in his old cynical way said.
"Nothing much will happen,
People will consider Killian loony,
Kathy will simply flirt,
Seamus, well, goodness knows
What they'll make of him.
Why did he go anyway?
Trixie will make a fool of herself.

So he laughed off
The notion of a pilgrimage.
Yet at the same time
He could not help but think
And wonder what they were doing.

Fiancee Grissie noticed this
And asked Will what troubled him.

"Do you think that
To refuse Killian's offer
To go on a great pilgrimage
Was to miss out on
Some grand adventure?" He asked.

Grissie's face fell
Into a deep, deep scowl
And her eyes were filled with rage.

"Do you miss some adventure
Or is it something else?
Perhaps you just want
To be there because Kathy is."

Will rolled his eyes
"Are you bringing it up again?
Kathy is just a friend.
Yes she is a flirt
But she only plays.
You are insanely jealous."

Grissie was not happy
With the answer that
Will had given her
"You kissed her on the cheek."

Will shouted at her.
"That was just in jest.
Kathy flirts with anyone
Even if they are old and ugly."

Grissie, grumpy and filled
With a jealous meanness muttered.
"That Kathy is a money grabbing whore."

Will stood up.
"No she is not.
Yes she flirts but she
Does not invite all into her.
You're just jealous
That you cannot
Make a man blush like she can."

Grissie gave him one hard slap
And shoved him out of the door.

"Go find Kathy and all of the others
That's where you would rather be
I can see it in your eyes."

Will at first blinked
And felt rather insecure.

"We are still engaged, right?"
Was what he asked
Only have have her slam
The door in his face.

Will simply pushed
His doubts away
"She will marry me.
She likes me too much
To simply drop me."
(To his credit Grissie
Would not have broken
Off his engagement,
Much to her family's confusion.)

So he did decide
To leave Karmia
He wrote to Grissie
To say he loved her
But was going on a journey.

He wanted to enjoy
The last of bachelorhood
That he had.
Perhaps he would
Catch up to the others.

Yet he could not be certain
But some exploration could not hurt.

So he left Karmia
And went into the
Surrounding forest.
He felt confident, free and comfortable.

He twisted and turned
Along well beaten paths
And when the sun went down
He stopped to rest.

Will leaned his head
Against an old oak tree
To rest his body from walking.

As he rested he saw something
Not so far away,
Within walking distance.

Picking up his belongings
He carefully walked
Through the undergrowth.

As he approached it
The moon shone out
And revealed to him
A green door.

Now Will's curiousity
Was piqued
And he did not care
For what would happen
If he snuck inside.

He opened the door
And found a long set of stairs
Going down a long winding tunnel.

Quietly he walked down them,
Peering around to look
At what surrounded him.

On the walls of this tunnel
Lit by torches and strange light
Were slogans praising
None other than the Holy Guide.

'The Holy Guide will lead the way'

'The Holy Guide will save us'

'The Holy Guide is all powerful'

'Worship the Holy Guide'

All were written upon the wall.

Now Will knew Killian's writing
And he knew that none of this was it.
Killian had not been here.

There were more people
Who worshipped the Holy Guide
So it wasn't just Killian being nuts.
Yet how Killian had come across this
Will could only find baffling.

He came to the end of the tunnel
And what he saw shocked him.
There looked to be a town of sorts
With people dressed in rags.

Around them were other people
In gold and brown robes
Whipping them, tying them up
And acting in a very brutal way.

Will felt his feelings overcome him
Was this to do with the Holy Guide.

He looked at the sign atop the gate
It said...

'Jared Hallows
Town for the Enemies of the Holy Guide.'
