Ethereal (Part 14) Letter to A Lord

by Moonlight Wolf
 Age Group: Adult

Meanwhile on the journey Kathy was feeling lonely. Her thoughts returned To old Lord Karmia Resting on his bed Struck with his heart condition.
She remembered her Many visits to him And remembered how Happy he was to see her. Hardly anyone visited him, All of his family was dead And he was childless. Those who were employed By the old Lord Could not bring themselves To be as uplifting as Kathy For they held nothing But the utmost reverence For their ageing employer.
Kathy thought Of the smile he gave her When she walked into his home. "Oh how good of you to come." He often said to her. "In my age and in my condition I can not get about As much as I would wish. Most of the time I am Bound to my house A bored and lonely old man. You bring me much joy In my final days."
The two would then talk For maybe an hour or more And Kathy loved How he made her laugh, How alive his mind was Despite his poor ailing body.
They would joke They would sing And Kathy loved Bringing a smile To the old lord's cheeks.
But now she was here In the woods with her friends And a few new followers Who had decided to join.
She plodded along Keeping up with the others Until Killian stopped her.
"The Holy Guide knows How you feel about Lord Karmia." He began softly and kindly, But then his tone turned harsh.
"But you should not focus Your devotion on him. You are away on a pilgrimage To purify your mind and heart. You should not waste it By moping over the old lord."
Kathy felt glum at this But she simply nodded. Yet she could not help But think back to that day When she had said goodbye.
The day had been A rather dull one. Kathy had gone up to the mansion. The servants had grudgingly let her in.
She saw the old lord Sat in his favourite chair Bundled up in robes To keep him warm And a nice bright fire To cheer up the room.
They had talked for a while When Kathy had brought Up Killian's pilgrimage.
At first the old lord Seemed sad to let her leave But then smiled warmly.
"You should go on this journey And see the world For life is but a fleeting moment In all of time. Take this opportunity While you are young."
"An old man like me Is not long for this world And I would hate to see You in a great sorrow And acting like My bereaved widow."
"It would give me great joy, To see you love another man Knowing that you will remain happy After I have gone."
So he urged her on this trip But now Kathy was having second thoughts Who was there to cheer him And keep him company in that big house?
Night time came When Kathy could take no more She took an old scrap of paper And a small pen. She wrote the old lord A letter.
'To my dear Lord Karmia We are well on our journey. Some other people Have now joined our party. I have seen many creatures And seen many nice faces But none are as joyous as yours When I come to see you. I miss you greatly And does no one else come To see you at all? I am greatly concerned For your happiness my lord And I hope you are well by the time I..."
Killian snatched the letter away His face as dark as thunder. He took the letter over To the dying fire And tossed it in.
Kathy watched as the flames Curled the paper And turned it black. Her heartfelt words were lost forever.
"You heartless fiend!" Kathy yelled. "Have you no feeling left in your heart. Has the Holy Guide fried your feelings As you fried up my letter?"
Killian looked at her hard. "He is not the devotion That you should focus on, Your devotion should only be on The Holy Guide who will save us."
Kathy balled her hands to fists, "How can you be so cruel About a poor old man Who longs for company Has the Holy Guide Robbed you of Your compassion?"
Killian then felt stung. "Lord Karmia is old. He is past his time. You should focus your heart On the Holy Guide Who will bring you The love you desire."
Kathy then let out a laugh "I don't think it will For the love I desire And the love the Holy Guide desires Are two completely different things. I wish to tell Lord Karmia About all that happens to us Yet you go and burn all my words to him."
Killian then felt rage. "You waste your life Over a decrepid old man. When he dies Do you want to be like a widow Sobbing by his graveside Holding a bunch of white flowers Wearing a black dress To make you dull. Why they would laugh at you And scorn you, You who flirt with anything That takes your fancy. You've flirted with Seamus And with Will Along with many others."
Kathy felt rage pulse through her. "Have you lost all your Sense of politeness All your sensitivity All feeling in your body. Is the Holy Guide All that matters to you now."
Killian honestly said yes.
The two then excahnged a heated argument So loud that Seamus could hear. He stepped up to them And quietly said. "Perhaps you should sleep on it For it is getting out of hand. Rest now for we still have a way to go."
So they put away the argument And settled down for the night But not before Kathy shot Killian The filthiest of all looks.
Author's Notes: A long part, and a bit soppy as well. Most Kathy orientated parts will be focused in this way as Kathy is the lover out of the group.
