Ethereal (Part 18) Jared Hallows

Jared Hallows
A straight and narrow village
In a barren land,
Cut off from the rest of the world.
A village where
The sun and moon don't shine,
No food grows
And all the water is
Simply contained
In a never empty lake.
The people of Jared Hallows
Or rather the prisoners
Are fed rations of food
Enough to keep them alive.
They live in simple huts,
One room with only torches
For light, not heat.
There are no toilets
Or even any beds.
As far as the servants
Of the Holy Guide are concerned
The floor is more than good enough.
Each day,
(If you could call it day)
The servants beat
Whoever they choose.
The victim may have been
Disobedient or disrespectful.
It does not matter to them.
As far as the servants are concerned
The inmates are rats.
Will hid from them
Whenever he could.
The locals, most of them kind
Shared their food with him.
Will did all he could
To bring some solace
To the miserable lives they led.
Many of the locals were old
Too wise and experienced
To ever truly accept the Holy Guide.
Some of the locals were disabled
And thus deemed useless.
Many however could not
Or simply would not
Hear the Holy Guide.
Will was left quite beside himself.
His friend Killian
Whom he'd known
To be ever so kind and thoughtful
Was allying himself
With a being so intolerant
A being so filled with hatred.
However he knew
From speaking with the locals
There was more going on
Than the Holy Guide
Would ever let Killian know.
In many years past
There had been followers
Of the Holy Guide.
The more followers it had
The more powerful it became.
Soon the Holy Guide
Could start to control others
Not just the receptive.
However there would always be
A minority within the world
That would either resist
Or simply just have some way
Of blocking out the Holy Guide.
Not wanting this minority
To affect everyone else
In the way the Holy Guide came to them
The Holy Guide had its servants
The very first followers
And their families
Build Jared Hallows
A prison for all those
Whom were considered enemies.
After Will heard this recount
(By an elderly woman
Who had been in Jared Hallows
Since childhood.)
He knew that Killian
Because he was naive
And somewhat gullible
(Will recalled pranks he had played
Upon Killian when younger.)
He was being brainwashed
As he was an easy target.
Soon after Will had settled
In at Jared Hallows
(All the while trying to think
Of how to get them all out
Without the Holy Guide interfering.)
A new arrival descended.
Now Will knew this arrival,
It was none other than Faye.
Arrested, captured
And brought to the Hallows.
Faye was very frightened
By what was happening now.
All she had known
Was family life.
The two of them
Caught up with some news.
Until one day
When passing the Hallows Lake
Faye saw something within.
Now Will never saw anything
But Faye claimed to see
Killian, Kathy, Seamus and Trixie
Along with a growing number
Of loyal followers
On their pilgrimage
For the Holy Guide.
