Ethereal (Part 20) Heartache

Age Group: Adult
The sun rose
Over the pilgrims
And Trixie had never looked better
The circles under her eyes
Had vanished
And she no longer
Seemed depressed or tired.
"I had the most peaceful night
That I had had in ages." She cried.
Killian looked at Trixie
Shocked at the transformation.
Trixie had not submitted
So her recovery baffled him.
Kathy and Seamus
Were thrilled to have Trixie back.
Their days would be
Filled with laughter again.
"How can you have recovered?"
Killian asked Trixie in surprise.
"You were rude and wild,
The Holy Guide disapproved
Of your wilful behaviour."
Kathy then stood up.
"Perhaps it has forgiven her
For I'm sure Trixie is too pleasant
To leave in such a sorry state."
Trixie just threw back her head
And laughed at the very suggestion.
"I do not think the Holy Guide
Has forgiveness in it dictionary."
Killian shook his head
Not believing what had happened.
How had Trixie recovered
Surely it could not be
The work of the Holy Guide.
All he could do however
Was simply lead onwards
To the next destination.
They travelled further
And more followers joined
Thanks to Killian's preaching.
Now Seamus who had been
Rather quiet along the way.
Was rather surprised at
How Killian was able
To persuade people to follow
The Holy Guide for
Killian had never really been
Charismatic or interesting.
In the past Killian
Had followed the crowd
Rather than led it.
Seamus could not quite believe
The transformation but he knew
That the Holy Guide was behind it.
Night fell on the growing number
Of willing pilgrims
With Seamus wondering at
The Holy Guide's power over others,
Trixie arguing with Killian
And Kathy sneaking away
To a corner by herself.
Seeing Trixie recover
From what the Holy Guide had done
Made her think of Lord Karmia
All alone in his house
Struck with his heart condition.
If the Holy Guide had lifted its curse
Then surely it would cure the Lord.
"Oh Holy Guide." Kathy prayed
"Please help Lord Karmia,
Alleviate him and cure him
Of his troubled heart.
Let him rush forth in health.
He is a good man.
He deserves good health
And to live a happy life.
Please hear my prayer
And answer it."
Now Killian had noticed
Kathy sneak away
And followed her
To overhear her prayer.
He stepped forward
Feeling for Kathy
For he knew from that prayer
That she truly cared about him.
"Kathy." He said, feeling rather sad.
"The Holy Guide sent me a message.
It is about Lord Karmia."
Kathy looked at him
Hoping that her prayer
Was going to be answered.
Killian shook his head.
"It said that Lord Karmia
Is a doomed man."
Kathy's face fell
And it seemed her heart would break.
All she asked next was.
"Will I be able to see him again
Before he passes on?"
Killian smiled and nodded.
"I believe so
For the Holy Guide has said
That there is work to be done
In Karmia so soon we will
Return where you can see him."
Kathy bounced off
Full of great happiness
Back to her friends
But Killian just watched
Feeling the pain of what he'd just said.
Soon he knew that
Kathy's heart would break
For he had seen it in a dream.
