Ethereal (Part 22) Seamus's Numbing Mind

Age Group: Adult
Killian assembled
All of his followers.
His friends stood
Slightly to the side
To be away from that
Rather mad crowd.
This crowd hung on
To Killian's every word
As Killian held on
To every word that came
From the Holy Guide.
They never questioned
They never spoke out
Against what Killian said.
To Seamus in particular
This was disturbing.
For Seamus had an
Inquisitive and intuitive nature.
He had this feeling
That he could not explain.
It was imbedded
Deep within his stomach.
The followers all gathered
To hear Killian speak.
"The Holy Guide has set us work."
He called out.
"We are to head for Karmia.
We will gain more followers on the way
To help with what
The Holy Guide has set us to do."
They applauded him
And looked at him
In absolute reverence.
But Seamus found himself
Bold enough to ask
What work the Holy Guide
Wanted them to do in Karmia.
Killian simply dismissed Seamus.
"The Holy Guide has told me
To hold off my tongue about it until then."
Now the day wore on
And the group travelled on.
Seamus feeling all the more weary.
He had to wonder why
Killian had been told to be quiet.
Now normally Seamus
Was a strong thinker
From many years of being watchful.
Yet now he could not seem
To form thoughts
That were clear enough
To figure out why
The Holy Guide wanted Killian
To be silent about this work.
It was like his mind
Had suddenly gone numb.
He spent most of the days
Pondering these thoughts
As Killian preached
And willingly did
Everything the Holy Guide asked.
Now he had to wonder
Whether his friend
Was being wise
In the sense he wasfollowing
A being that wanted all
To be submissive and obedient.
He remembered Trixie's ordeal
And the scathing words about Will
And recalled the Holy Guide's
Apparent hatred of Faye.
Yet Killian still blindly followed
As if he was under a spell.
He was like a sheep
Leading the smaller sheep.
Seamus shook his head
And that feeling
That stabbed his stomach
Deepened and intensified.
Killian announced they would stop
For a break to rest their feet
And Seamus went up to him.
"Killian, we have been friends
For a very long time.
I cannot help but think
That the Holy Guide has altered you."
Killian smiled warmly
And simply said.
"If it has changed me
Then I can only say
The change is for the better."
Seamus looked at him
With a sober and serious face.
"Then why have you hatred
For both Will and Faye.
Are those feelings really yours
Or is the Holy Guide
Pushing how it feels
Onto you."
Killian shrugged
Not wanting to answer the question
For the Holy Guide was telling him
To dismiss the question
For there were more important things
To think about.
"Seamus, are you worried?"
Was all he could ask.
Seamus nodded
"Do not be." Killian said.
"Having faith in the Holy Guide
Will protect you.
Nothing bad can happen
While we are on
The Holy Guide's side."
Seamus smiled falsely
Knowing Killian would not
Give him any answers,
Nor would he be able to put his mind at rest.
So Seamus went over to Trixie
And discussed his feelings with her.
Trixie listened and simply said.
"I can't say I have much faith
In anything anymore,
With the exception of
My excellent sense of humour."
Author's Notes: Seamus parts will come out all contemplative just as Kathy parts will be all about Lord Karmia. Well this is halfway there. (Unbelievable) Enjoy my masterpiece/pile of trash..
