Ethereal (Part 33) The Night Before

Age Group: Adult
Killian sat as night fell,
All of the followers
Had fallen asleep
For the big day
Would soon arrive.
Kathy was asleep
A few tears
Flowing down her cheeks.
Seamus was asleep
But in a hard
And restless way.
Killian could not sleep
He felt nervous
About the coming days.
He would be
Returning to Karmia
To where he was born
Where he was raised.
It was to be purified
According to the Holy Guide.
Killian knew he was doing
What the Holy Guide asked him
So why did he feel
So uncertain in himself.
He dismissed it
Calling out silently
To the spirit that
Had brought him so far.
"Do you hear me?" It asked.
Killian nodded and listened.
"There is another name
On the list of the doomed
That I did not mention to you.
It is Trixie who has
Given us both much grief
And who has refused to submit
And share in my glory.
She has rejected me.
Therefore she is doomed."
Killian felt puzzled
At why the Holy Guide
Had not mentioned this sooner.
"I want to give her
A sliver of false hope."
The Holy Guide said
Reading Killian's thoughts.
"She plans a crusade
Against me and
All that is good.
She wishes to destroy me.
"Surely it is she,
Not yourself Killian,
Who causes the mayhem
The violence and the horror.
After all it is the guilty
Who point the accusing finger."
At that the Holy Guide
Fell silent and Killian was alone.
He sat for a while and began to
Think a little bit.
Suddenly he saw
Just as he remembered
The violent vision
That the Holy Guide
Had sent him all that time ago.
Seeing the figure
Cheering over mayhem
Killian could not hel[
But break down into a mess.
"I do not want
To hurt anyone in Karmia,
It is my home
And the people I have known all my life.
What am I to do?"
The Holy Guide came again
"This journey has pain
But Karmia is doomed
For none will listen to me
And they will not listen to you."
Killian saw this as truth
But felt the pain
Hit his heart
Even harder than
It had done before.
He needed to break down.
From a tree
Trixie watched him
Knowing truly in her heart
That the Holy Guide
Did not care for anyone.
You could believe with all your heart
You could loudly scoff and laugh
It was all the same to the Holy Guide
It was here simply
To crush people's souls
And to cause mayhem.
Author's Notes: Here we are, getting there slowly. This is about three quarters of the way through so if you've missed any don't forget to check.
Surely you didn't Killian would be able to ruthlessly face what's ahead.
