The Rollrights - Desecration.

Rollrights
I stood in holy circle
As part of the worlds great whole
And in my hands on that night
I held one tiny soul
We call the god & goddess in
To look on what I hold
Those dancing eyes of shining blue
And the hair like elf-spun gold.
Her name it was now uttered
And it danced upon the wind
A naming for a tiny soul
On whom future hopes are pinned
Her tiny body walked the circle round
So to all there she’d be known
And know throughout her coming life
She’d never be alone.
As I bade the spirits fond farewell
I glanced around the circled stone
For that gentle moment
I felt that this was home
But as oft the case I turned away
Placed this night in minds weighty tome
And pondered on the chances
Of coaxing my battered Sceptre home
The circle turns away to now
A full year and few short days
A long planned get together
In the early spring time haze
Leaping Hare we called it
And the day was going well
Interesting conversations
And pagan trinketry to sell
Twas then I heard the painful news
Of what befell those distant Stones
And all around as news soon spreads
Pleasured laughter turned to groans
For that home it is now weeping
Many tears upon the ground
With sad and angered disbelief
Most common in the layered sound
The yellow that flows across them
Comes not from sparkling sun
It comes from desecration
Done for joke and fun
April Fool’s they called it
Some would say a spiteful pun
But for their game of viciousness
They needs must take to run
I know not how long it will take
Nor whether it can be done
But I hope that place will be whole again
Under next years April sun.
And I hope those of the risen Dark will learn
What exactly they have done!

I dont think I could have put it any better.
The pain the damage to the Rollright circle has caused to the Pagan community will resonate throughout every country in which our brothers and sisters are present
As someone who has been personally involved with the site, I cannot believe that anyone could do something so purely thoughtless and spiteful as a joke.
I am sorry to admit I am a cynic and often have too little faith in human nature at the best of times. This has shocked me more than I thought possible.
I join others in fervently hoping that the damage may be repaired and that those found responsible be treated accordingly.
This poem is just my thoughts and a little contribution of a personal nature about the Rollright stones and both the happy & sad events in my life that they have been associated with.
