Silent Room

From the wall, the pallid wall
A ring of laughter sounds
The echoes bounce in silent air
The air is always silent
Shadows for where light is not
There is a chill with no draught or breeze
What runs down the wall and up the wall
I cannot see
There is no light
Yet there are shadows in the darkness
And she stands adjacent to the bed
In her grey, drab petticoat
Her laughter ringing from the walls
The pallid walls
