An Alphabet of Pagans- J is for Jumpy

Age Group: Adult
Hiding in the dark recesses
Of the jumpy Pagan's mind
Is discrimination, anger and fear.
"Are you a Witch?"
A person does ask.
"Why are you asking?
Are you discriminating
Against me or something?"
Is the jumpy reply.
Perhaps in the past
They have suffered some sort
Of discrimination or prejudice
Which makes them
Wary of discussing their beliefs.
They hide in the broom closet
Because they have heard of
So many stories about
Discrimination and hatred
Violence and harassment
Anger and fear.
They believe the same
Will happen to them
At the hands of those
Who can't be bothered
To address that which
They do not understand.
They also hide from
Their fellow Pagans
Fearful of being labelled
A fluffy or a poser
Because they may not have
The right knowledge
Or the right approach to theit path.
They hide from
Their own experiences
Believing them to somehow
Be not right or not valid
Either due to the scepticism
Or even just the disdain of others.
They believe that they
Are unworthy of anything
And jump when someone
Comes around to ask them
What they believe in,
Or how they practice,
Or what they think of this.
The jumpy Pagan is
Afraid that someone will
Yell or berate them
For what they do
Even if they have read
Some of the finest books
On the subject
They are insecure
But not fundamentalist
Or else their mouths would
Be open all the time.
Author's Notes: There's not much to say about this. Although with all the in-fighting and various horror stories of discrimination coming in regularly on Pagan websites, there probably are a few who don't want to put in their thoughts because they don't want to be yelled at or criticised for not being 'right.'
