An Alphabet of Pagans- M is for Morbid

by Moonlight Wolf

Age Group: Adult

In all the graphic detail
They will tell you
How the bird eats the worm
Or how the lion
Rips open zebras and gazelles.
They will tell you all the beauty
Of the maggots devouring
The corpses of those
Who have met their fateful end.

They know all the myths
Of Kali, Shiva and Shakti.
They will happily tell you
About Lilith, that dark seductress.
They can recite with elan
All the myths of the Morrigan
And the battles in which
She became involved.

These are the morbid Pagans
Who love the deathly and the dark
They sing of the Underworld
Of Hades and Persephone
Of Hypnos and Thantos
Of the great cycle
That culminates in death.

Their deities are dark
They shun all those
Who believe in nothing
But the love and the light
Yet the more live in nothing
But the darkness of themselves.
They see no value in the light
And all balance is forgotten.

They can be the most miserable
And most overly serious Pagans
Who may ever walk the earth.
True they see the beauty in the dark
But why see none in the light also?
Death can be truly beautiful
But is not life also this
For without it death cannot take place.

The morbid Pagans
Who dance over the Hunt
Who sing the joys of death
For whom Samhain is the highest
Much higher than Beltane
Shall dance with death
In all it's joy
Over life that is all destroyed.

Author's Notes: There probably are a good few morbid Pagans who overdo the darkness and death side of the balance and tend to exclude all the lighter aspects of Nature. Death is a part of life and should be celebrated but how many out there actually take this a bit too far at times?

Next Time: N is for Narcissistic
