Patriot?

I am a Patriot
And I love you England
Wild untameable beauty
That is my home
That holds my heart
I am a Patriot
Your history enchants me
Secrets and passions
Memories and loves
All that I am
I am a Patriot
In a place that calls
Dictatorship democracy
Hands dripping blood
Because they kill in my name
I am a Patriot
Yet I hate you England
For what you have done
And for what you will do
In the name of 'good'
I am a Patriot
But I am not proud
For the bullets they shoot
Rip out my heart
And destroy my soul.
Author's Notes: I'm 17 and yet even I see the pain all around me and despair. I love my country, my home, and I never wish to leave it, but sometimes it's actions make me feel immensly guilty. I am a part of England, and so I am accountable for England's mistakes. I am a Patriot, yet sometimes the poverty, war, pain and indifference in my country and outside it are enough to make me hate everything I am.
I hope the poem makes you consider all the wonderful precious things that make a country great, and all the horrible faults that are hidden behind them. There IS such a thing as tough love.
