Lughnasadh

Age Group: Adult
Summer sun is worn
And high is the corn
Now it is the time to reap
Time to cut the grain
Bring the harvest again
So we through Winter keep.
And there in the field
The ground now does yield
The golden wheat and the rye
And now with the scythe
In His sacrifice
The Horned God prepares to die.
To keep life for all
The mighty He falls.
As the grain is cut once more
The God's youth is sped
Age upon His head.
Resignation at His core
Create now a King
In honour and sing
Of that which He gives away.
Make a man of straw
Sacrifice once more
The Summer it cannot stay
Upon the twelfth card
The pain there is hard
Hanging upside down from the oak.
Our comfort is gone
With the mournful song
That we sing in sorrowed croak.
The Goddess has now
Some age on her brow
As She revives Him once more
Her consort is old
No more a youth bold
Lost now what he had before.
Becomes Lord of Death
To lay ground to rest
Holds the hand of ageing love.
The Goddess Her bones
She is now a Crone
Ageing like the sun above
The seasons shall change
The light shall give way
With the gathering of rye
We too shall age soon
In bane and in boon
Youth shall pass us all in life
For Nature does give
Some life so others live
We too something we must yield
Sacrifice comforting things
So that some harvest bring
Just as the wheat in the field.
