The Tempest on the Moor

by Moonlight Wolf
 Age Group: Adult

Clouds do gather over the hills Wind churns up the grass and chills The frigid grasp of Gods do thrill Upon the lonely moor Shadows in the sky are growing As time and pace seem to be slowing Hear the Gods' thunderous moaning With sorrow ne'er felt before The gaps inside the clouds are whitening With the flashes of their static lightening With crack and flash so frightening As if the breaking of a door. All and now it comes to quick With this storm coming so electric And the wind a coming hard and slick In this tempest upon the moor
Hold your breath and bar your fears As the rain now comes down falling near The Gods water Earth now with Their tears They are splashing upon the moor With the wetting stone and rotting wood To turn the dirt now into mud Tread now carefully so you should So you'll not slip on the floor A drum roll on the path so trodden Now soaking wet and water sodden Prints now made there to be forgotten With the many that trod before Pools and lakes form in the fields As the Gods their sorrows now revealed The soil once solid now does yield In this tempest upon the moor
Out the dark their comes a crack And a tree with broken back Broken by light as quick as that With fire out every pore The tree now stands among the dead Its tenants now have gone and fled Nought but flames upon its head Then extinguished by tears once more The wind causes other branches shaking And many more now are a breaking And the near stone wall is a quaking In a scream never felt before Branches there now bent and broken By the wrath of Gods which has been awoken Their fury'd power has been spoken In the tempest upon the moor
The rain comes down to cause a flood With it comes the slush and mud Flee this place is what you should When the Gods are angry and sore. The storm does rage upon the ground Frightening beings that live around With thrilling sights and sudden sounds Upon the land or shore The wall by the wind knocked over Leaves the wanderer scared and sober By the wrath of Him and also of Her And oh mercy we can implore The storm rages through the day Thunder, lightening in deadly play Wind and rain course all the way In the tempest upon the moor
Then the rain lightens, softly slowing And the wind falters to gently flowing Thunder, lightening seem to be going And soon we can be sure Their wrath it seem to be disarming They go from their anger to be so charming And cease off their frightening harming Of the beings whose mercy implore And a gap appears there in the clouds A sunbeam faintly touches ground And there a rainbow can be found Whose colours we all adore The sky and storm now soon are clearing The wrath of Gods no longer fearing A calmer time is ever nearing So ends the tempest upon the moor
Author's Notes: Simply just got inspired to write this poem. Nature at its most wrathful and self harming is during a storm.
