Spring?

Spring?
Is it spring just because lambs are born
With their cries sounding in the cold dark night
Leading me to think they are lost and forlorn.
Is it Spring because Snowdrops bloom,
Their white heads drooping heavy with snow
Shrivelling in the cold that heralds their doom.
Is it Spring yet in this cold dark time
When the Sun hides his face, and refuses to shine
Beaten by dark clouds he enters not the mime.
The mime that says with Imbolc comes Spring
And sweet Brighid has beaten the Winter queen
But her hard hold is not loosened yet by Spring.
