Volcano: Your Angry Days.

Volcano: Your Angry Days.
You have been so long quiet
Under grey rock you hide your head
But we remember those long banked fires
We remember how we fled
Back then it started quietly
Your rock built sides began to swell
A promise of massive power
As in the forest the soft rain fell
The scientists they watched you
As like pregnant mother your flanks grew
They climbed over your straining body
Trying to learn what you would do
And as the weeks they passed by
Animals, pre-warned, drifted away
That quiet little man with the clever eyes
Said it might be any day
One day you just exploded
A massive cloud into the sky
You flattened the forests like matchwood
Now many mourn and cry
The ashes of your anger
Once red hot, now cold and grey
Were carried on the wide worlds wind
To distant places far away.
And calm again, you became quiet
As you’re ashen anger drifted away
And you hid your head in silence
To await a future angry day
And now it seems you raise your head
And your deep-hidden belly raises flame
To warn the complacent in us
That Mother Nature is never tame
And I look into the future
Where the technologist plays
And they’ll find your ashen anger
And remember these,
Your angry days.

Author's Notes: This one is a little different from my usual fare. My Grandmother gave me the idea for it actually.
I think its worked quite well. I know a fair amount about volcanics etc as I did a degree in Geology.
Volcanos and other events in nature warn us that we will never entirely control our environment and indeed that is folly to attempt to.
Its a shame that humankind never seems to learn from its mistakes...
