The Moors Man.

by Jemma Hawtrey
 Age Group: Adult

The Moors Man.
I watched your pass just once alone; rain bespattered And saw one whose youth’s beauty had flown, But to whom it had never mattered; Something never lost is never missed And never shown is never kissed?
You caught my eye and watched me – hawk like ‘til the rub of brake on tired wheel of ancient bike Distracted me thence to such mundane things As phone that blats & bleeps or kettle sings; and thence, Back I looked you passed school’s rusted swings And passed from me behind some other’s fence
And never did I see again the old; of the life long lost Walking, bent over through the cold; a person who; In history tossed – has lost all that he has known So much he knows the ways to do; yet not needed now So never shown ‘til the moors man’s time has flown Until at some future time the call will rise; how?
In past my friend are seeds of future sown And past is soon enshrouded in times dark gown – long gone That ancient town of tale and song And the knowledge in those old eyes It’s lost to us, its grounded habit flown Resides now in churchyard, blossom blown.
