Fanai: The wanderers.

Fanai: The wanderers.
We walked the ages, Fanai, you and I
The centuries they pass us by
The Quicken means we’ll never die
It doesn’t mean we cannot cry
A thousand years are dead and gone
Be we the wanderers still go on
The grimy streets of Dublin wend
Where once the beck trickled & shone
There’s been so many names and faces
The sadness follows us every place
Well beyond our given span of years
But we can’t give up the chase.
Druidess, abbess, and lover fair
The blue eyed girl with the flowing hair
Once so young, without a care
I wish I were with you back there
And as we sit on the distant hill
Of the ancient Glaston Tor
We remember our beloved Gobann
Our teacher in both life and lore
And my hands caress the harp-string
The gentle sound takes wing
Your voice its quiet companion
As of long lost Eirinn you sing
And sadly it too soon comes to time
When we must pass on our way
The life of the Wandering Fanai
Where a thousand years is but a day
And thank you for telling our story
Sharing the smallest part of our life
And, friend, don’t fear the death of time
Immortality cuts deeper than any knife.
So, I, Mawn the Harper, and sweet Sianan
Will walk our pathway, forever and a day
And we’ll know and rue the many changes
As the world we knew drifts so far away
