You told me.

You told me.
You told me you’d care
That you’d always be there
And you’d hold me
When life wasn’t fair
You told me that friendship
Was a grip that would not slip
That you’d touch me
And comb my long hair
And at first it was true
I could hold fast to you
If I was worried by fears
Be they old or new
But then that mistake
That still keeps me awake
The admission that
The concord would break
The truth about me
That you wouldn’t see
That broke us like
The axe does the tree
That behind this face
Hid a young woman in lace
Who was then striving
To realise her place
She is just one part of me
That tall girl you might see
The one who could
But for one ‘fault’, be free
So now I shall go
And watch sorrows flow
With a pain in my heart
That you’ll never know
So I’ll give you a hug
And we’ll both sadly shrug
Then I’ll walk away, head down
In the cold mornings fug.
