After The Kill

My heart breaks, my eyes they fill
As I see what happens after the kill
A mother, a father, now bereft
Or a child alone, in this world is left
The family broken, a space that can't be filled
Do you see what happens after the kill
Time heals all, that's what they say
But the hurt grows still, with each new day
Our only real comfort, that the heart may still
Is knowing what happens after the kill
A soul journeys homeward to that final place of peace
And with love we will join them when our own life is cease
Finally with joy our hearts will overspill
When eventually it happens after the kill
In that land everlasting, where youth eternal flows
Families re-united, sorrow, no longer grows.
