The Goddess in a Material World

Age Group: Adult
Once upon a time in the West,
The Sky God reigned supreme,
Mankind was firmly made to comply
By the hand of his priests unseen.
Every law and custom, was an extension
Of the conquering Sky God’s wrath,
And those “sinners” who were not punished
Could be simply shamed to death.
Then Science raised its timely head,
To contradict outdated lore,
Despite persecution and inquisition
Superstition shall be no more.
Every sectarian who stands his ground,
Every priest who breaks his trust,
Brings the edifice clattering down,
To moulder in the dust.
Now in the sacred name of Science
The West is a materialist world,
That no longer aspires to paradise;
Has a humanist flag unfurled.
Women are permitted to take their place,
We celebrate the here and now,
Sex is no longer the ultimate sin,
Science does Nature endow.
This new religion in the West
Needs only a prettier face,
And a much, much longer pedigree
Its novelty to replace.
