I call upon the infernal gods, Hecate, Hades and Dis to curse:

I give him, to them, entire. I give them his heart and his head,
I give them his liver and his lites, I give them his bladder and his bowels.
I give them his body and his soul.
May his bones break, may his penis wither,
and may each and every one his bodily orifices suppurate.
I will sacrifice nine black puppies to the aforesaid chthonic gods
upon the satisfactory completion of his suffering,
whereupon they may take his life.
Herein, inscribed upon lead, his crude image transfixed with a nail,
rolled up secret and the ends crimped, placed in deep water,
a well, a chasm, or by some other suitable pathway to the underworld
such as the grave of a recently deceased friend who might deliver it personally.
I call upon the infernal gods Hecate, Hades and Dis; I give him, to them, entire.
Author's Notes: The source of the hot spring at Bath, the shrine of Sullis-Minerva, like many other springs and wells, private graves and niches in graveyards were used to deliver curse tablets to the underworld (Chthonic) deities.
They were mostly written on paper, velum or clay, but it is the ones inscribed on lead which survive.
We need an understanding of just how our ancestors “did deals” with the gods.
“Covenentia”is a generic name for the sprite of the pool or well with whom one made a covenent, be it only (a little more positively) a penny for luck!
