For The Children

When children ask: 'Where be She found,
The Lady in all beauty gown'd?'
No answer give, but gently lead
O'er greenwood path, o'er crag and mead.
There She alone will swift impart
The first of truths to each young heart.
In mansions green Her soul doth flow
'Mid hearts that ne'er shall evil know;
Where leaf and fern's perpetual fall
Doth pave Her blest high palace-hall.
The pool Her mirror dark, yet bright
With the glow of Penarddun's lanternlight.
Here may they throng around Her knee
And in wonderment Her Beauty see.
On barren peak Her whispers rise
To all who seeketh to be wise;
At ocean's edge Her whispers fall -
A lullaby to soothe, enthrall.
Her tender voice in the surf-song sings
As the moon-kissed wave to the night-shore clings.
Aye, here in truth may dance young blood,
First stirr'd by Powers that well and flood:
They that the souls of all inspire
In mystic dream, in sacred Kaer.
This, then, the answer ye shall give.
But more - reflect each day ye live
The Lady's Love, vast, deep and wise,
In a father's heart, a mother's eyes."
