For Rowan Bride

The moon-path clove
The western sea
When first the clarsach
Still’d the night-bird’s cry.
Ere long the strain was murmur’d
Low amid the whisper’d secrets
Of each branch and leaf
Within the ancient grove
Of Manannan mac Lir,
Till Arran’s sea-caves
Voiced the playing
Of the harper green.
Forth streamed his song
Across the moors of Alba –
A tale of how one thread
From out the rainbow’s mist
Was drawn and led
To Orchil’s loom
Wherein the weft
Of beauty and of love
She ever weaveth.
He sang of how
The shuttle’s pass
To Bile’s dun had led,
And there a daughter bless’d
To Danu’s children
Had been gifted.
And so it was
Upon that night –
Dark as a hill-tarn,
Rowan Bride,
We heard and learnčd
Of thy birthing.

Author's Notes: This I wrote for the presentation of the daughter of Gaelic friends of our family.
So what do we call what is known as a 'god child' in ordinary society? A 'Goddess child'? Then I suppose I could be her 'goddess father'. (Sounds paradoxical!)
Better to say that she is my Goddess daughter,
