Summer’s End

Age Group: Adult
How fair the light of Gwydyon fell
Where gentle down and woodland blend;
Now mirror'd in the chanterelle
On this the night at Summer's End.
His scarlet cloak, whose rays extol
Each dusk and infant slumbers tend,
Lies deep within the elf-cup bowl
On this the night at Summer's End.
With fingers five, the walnut leaf
Crisp under foot each step befriends;
Whilst under thatch lies treasured sheaf
On this the night at Summer's End.
The mountain ash and sycamore
To northern blast in homage bend;
And dormouse dreams 'neath forest floor
On this the night at Summer's End.
Our Mother to The Dark Lord's Keep
Her agčd weary path doth wend
And there a season peaceful sleep
On this the night at Summer's End."

Author's Notes: The beginning of our Gwedy Haf Ceremony - Y Gamanfa Fawr (The Great Assembly) .
Samhain (Gaelic) or Gwedy Haf (Keltic) means ‘Summer’s End’, the 31st of October when the old year ends. November 1st is the New Year.
